'Compass' is the University of Sydney's schools outreach program. Their primary goal is widening access and participation to higher education. We are excited to say we have developed a partnership with the University of Sydney to implement a cutting edge fine motor skills program to our younger students.
Research suggests fine motor skills are an important part of childhood development and can effect a child's academic, social and emotional development. This skill is particularly important for primary-school aged children as they regularly participate in basic classroom activities such as writing and cutting.
Little Hands is a program that consists of a series of Occupational Therapy (OT) based fine and gross motor skill activities such as cutting, pencil skills, manipulating small objects, and activities that are designed to strengthen shoulder, hand, and finger muscles.
The school has invested in teacher training and resources to support he program which we know will strongly support our student's learning Twice a week K/1P students and a selection of other children take part in these activities. The resources are also available to students as 'can do' activities.
